Our maternity area is uniquely designed for your comfort, and our caring and competent nursing staff is always available to provide support to our new parents. Should complications arise, you can be assured that you are in one of the premier facilities in Louisiana for critical care of you and your newborn. Tulane Lakeside Hospital is an academic medical center and was recently named one of the top teaching hospitals in the country – and the only one in Louisiana.
The Metairie hospital has also received national recognition as a Baby-Friendly designated birth center. We are one of just five hospitals in Louisiana with this specialty designation and one of the first in the New Orleans area. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother/baby bonding.
The nationally-recognized hospital has also been GIFT-certified since 2008. The GIFT is an evidence-based program for Louisiana birthing centers designed to increase breastfeeding rates and hospital success by improving the quality of maternity services and enhancing patient-centered care.
